Watercolour for beginnners - an introduction and materials required

In this short video you can find out more about the course and its contents.

The exact materials needed for each exercise are specified in the topic, but to complete this course you will need:

Watercolour paper. 140lb/300gsm Not/cold pressed. Liz suggested getting good quality paper. You might be tempted to use cheaper paper for practice but it will fight against you and thwart your efforts - trust me.
Large and medium round brush (approx size 16 and 8)
Rigger (size 2)
Small flat brush
A range  of paints of your choice - pans or tubes. As a minimum a warm and cold version of red, blue and yellow, burnt Sienna and either Sap Green or Dioxazine Purple. See the film for an explanation before buying anything.
Two pots for water - jam jars are great
Spray bottle (fine)
Masking tape, board, hair dryer, kitchen towel, pencil, eraser

The course is aimed at people with no previous experience of painting in watercolours. Liz painting in a loose energetic style and the course will help you develop the skills, experience and confidence to start painting your own subjects. All the techniques are transferable, so don't be put off if you don't like the idea of painting a tree or seahorse!

Liz will start by explaining what materials you need and she suggests you watch this film before buying anything, to avoid exensive mistakes. Then step by step, she will take you through exercises to develop your own skills and style.
