Negative painting is far from negative! It is simply a way of turning how we look at objects upside down. The subject is revealed by painting the space and air around the object rather than by painting the object itself. Once you have got your head around the concept of negative painting it is incredibly useful to the watercolourist. It will help you capture light and carve out your subject from its surroundings.
